reduced fee to belong and also are responsible for selling a reduced number of lottery tickets. Major
fundraisers are lottery tickets, concession, 50/50 and selling advertisements for the game programs.
New idea this year was a booth at McCandless Community Day which was successful.
Girls Basketball – Current record is 9 and 3. JV, Varsity and ninth grade teams. There are 20 JV
Varsity players and 13 players on the Freshman team. Varsity team participates in Fall conditioning,
Boosters NA Fall league, and one additional league. Team also plays in a Spring league and conducts
Summer conditioning. Dues are $50.00 and each family is required to sell 20 raffle tickets, which is a
fundraiser conducted jointly with the boys team. Other fundraisers included a sale of signed sports
memorabilia and concession stand. Highlights of the past Summer was camp at PSU, costs of which
the Boosters helped defray.
Bowling – This is the eleventh season for the bowling team. 3-day try outs are in the Fall. JV and
Varsity program for both boys and girls. Dues $75.00. Girls are 4-1 and in 3rd place in their league.
Boys are also 4-1.

to three individual meets. Girls are two-time defending WPIAL champions. Boys have been WPIAL
Champions for six years in a row but are currently in a rebuilding process with a young team. Dues are
$85.00. The group has three major fundraisers: a hoagie sale, an auction and concession stand.
In-Door Track – There are 150 students participating. There are no booster dues or meetings. Season
is December – February. Practices Tuesday – Thursday at Baierl Ctr. The primary purpose of the
program is to prepare for Varsity Spring track and team is under the direction of Track and Field Coach
John Neff. Focus is on weight-lifting and strength training in preparation for the outdoor season.
There are several meets which are sponsored by the Tri-State Track Coaches Association that are
offered on a voluntary basis.
Wrestling – There was 46 Varsity wrestlers and 50 Junior High wrestlers this year. Varsity team
current record of 9 and 1. Team ranked 3rd in WPIAL. Major fundraiser was a Junior High
Tournament conducted at Marshall Middle School. Team also participated in two other tournaments:
Young Guns and the MAWA qualifier. The majority of revenues were used to purchase uniforms for
coaches and warm-ups and practice shorts for the wrestlers. They have two end-of-the-year banquets,
one for the Varsity and one for the Junior High Wrestlers.
V. Athletic Director’s Report
Mr. Bozzuto had several points of interest to share with the assembled representatives:
Scholar – Athlete: High school awards still not completed due to district-wide problems with
accessing grades of students in grades 9 – 12. Grades 7 – 8 are completed, and all teams qualified, a
first for the middle school program!
Golf Outing – AD reported that Executive Board met with Chair, Dave Hungerman, for planning
the UBO's first golf outing, now tentatively planned for June 1st at Pittsburgh North. Details will
be finalized before March meeting.
Athletic Health Seminar – Mr. Frank Valazquez will present a talk on student fitness. Seminar will
be held at NASH. This will include an anti-drug message. Details will follow. The program is called
“Atlas and Athena”.
Website – Randy Gore continues to operate. His email is randygore51@hotmail.com.
Champions Plaza Project – AD reported that the Champions Plaza Project is close to finalizing.
He will have a picture of the final plan sent out to the membership. It will now include a vertical
column to protect the marble from erosion and present a more distinctive entryway.
Physicals/Concussion Treatment – The AD indicated that Spring physicals and baseline testing
info is available on website. Middle School/Freshman girls volleyball deadline for testing and
physicals is fast approaching. All paperwork is due one week before all try outs.
Schedules – AD indicated that there are already many changes to the spring schedule and more will
probably occur. The reps should encourage members not to rely on highschoolsports.net. We no
longer subscribe to that scheduling program. The current scheduling program can be found at
www.wpialdistrict7.org and is up to date for winter and spring sports. Athletes and parents should
rely on the North Allegheny website first. The portion of the athletic website designated as “weekly
athletic schedule” (the first entry on the far right side of the athletic homepage) is the most current
information available to the athletic department and it is the first area of the website updated when
there are any change to the game or bus schedules. AD also indicated that beginning in February
Varsity Fall schedules should be on the website. Sub-varsity schedules are being delayed to avoid
excessive changes. Some other scheduling notes included: Oakland Catholic/Central Catholic
basketball double-header now finalized for February 3rd and changes to Cross-county (3
classifications) and Cheerleading (state championship) are expected in 2012.
Participation Fees – AD indicated that they had no major problems with the collecting of the
participation fees which go to the general fund. No change in the level of participation due to the
fee was seen in varsity sports, but some slippage was seen in intramurals. No facility fee increases
are expected for present groups receiving fee waivers.
VI.
