NA Swimmers Continue Roll With Sweep Of Moon

Junior Anna Verardi, sophomore Ann Juneau and freshman Jack Wright each finished first in two individual events as the North Allegheny swimming and diving teams swept Moon on January 21 at North Allegheny High School.  The girls won 80-68 and the boys won 87-67 as each squad remained undefeated in WPIAL action.

Verardi won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:15.56 and the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:12.07, while Juneau won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:00.40 and the 100-yard butterfly in 1:00.08.  Other first-place finishers for the girls were freshman Lila McGrath in the 50-yard freestyle (26.08); senior Taylor McClellan in the 100-yard freestyle (58.96); senior Erin Kuhn in the 500-yard freestyle (5:28.00); and junior Aimee Verardi in the 100-yard backstroke (1:03.97).  In the relays, Kuhn, McGrath, junior Lauren McGrath and senior Gianna Caputo won the 200-yard medley relay in 1:54.58; McClellan teamed with junior Katie Davis and freshmen Nicole Marnell and Mary Flavin to win the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:46.28; and sophomores Jordan Ennis and Serena Yan teamed with freshman Marlyn Root and Shannon Kress to win the 400-yard freestyle relay in 4:06.30.

Among the boys, Wright won the 100-yard butterfly in 55.37 and the 100-yard freestyle in 51.16.  Other first-place finishers were junior Eben Krigger in the 200-yard freestyle (1:45.38); junior Max Gonzalez in the 200-yard individual medley (2:00.97); senior Michael Struk in the 50-yard freestyle (23.40); senior Gage Halle in the 500-yard freestyle (5:01.68); sophomore Mason Gonzalez in the 100-yard backstroke (56.30); and senior Mack Pelo in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.92).  The Gonzalez brothers teamed with freshman Teague Urban and Jerry Chen to win the 200-yard medley relay in 1:45.37, while Wright and Chen teamed with freshmen John Ehling and Joel Songer to win the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:34.03.  The meet closed with Ehling and Mason Gonzalez teaming with sophomores Zachary Shuckrow and Andrew Zhang to win the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:21.56.

Senior Jared Ziegler won the boys’ diving competition with a score of 208.70.
