Bartolomucci’s Seven-Point Night Sparks 10-8 Win At Shady Side Academy

In a rematch of last year’s WPIAL Class 3A semifinal, the North Allegheny boys’ lacrosse team earned a measure of revenge on Wednesday night with a 10-8 victory at Shady Side Academy. In a clash of Section 2-AAA titans, the Tigers overcame an early 3-1 deficit thanks to a seven-point night by senior Marc Bartolomucci, who tallied four goals and three assists to pace NA’s high-powered attack.

The reigning WPIAL champs got off to a quick start thanks to a pair of goals by Mac Mohn and another by J.P. Henry for a 3-1 led after one quarter of play. Mohn, a Harvard commit, finished with a hat trick for the host Bulldogs.

Despite the early the deficit, North Allegheny got into a good shooting rhythm in the second quarter and tied the game at 4-4 by halftime. Freshmen Jonathan Castillo and Nick Sichak both netted goals, and Bartolomucci tied the game with 55 seconds remaining in the half.

The Tigers continued their offensive surge in the second half and outscored the Bulldogs, 3-2, in the third quarter. Tied 5-5, NA scored back-to-back goals courtesy of sophomore Travis Lamark and another by Bartolomucci, his fourth of the night, to grab a 7-5 lead with 3:32 remaining in the third period. Henry, a Marquette commit, tallied his second of the evening with 1:21 to go in the third to trim the NA advantage to 7-6 heading into the fourth quarter.

In the final stanza, three consecutive goals by the Tigers proved to be insurmountable as senior Christian Tedder, Lamark and junior Evan Lyon stretched the NA lead to 10-6 with 7:06 left in regulation. The Bulldogs managed two goals down the stretch but the NA defense and goalie Logan Lyle staved off SSA in the waning minutes for a 10-8 victory. Lyle made 12 saves on 20 shots, with several clutch stops at the end of the game.

The aggressiveness of the Tigers defense was crucial as Utah University commit, Marco Pascarella, notched four ground balls. Senior Matthew Miller gobbled up three ground balls and forced two takeaways.

North Allegheny leaps to 6-3 overall and 4-0 in Section 2-AAA, while Shady Side falls to 1-1 in the section. The Tigers will return to action on Monday night with a non-section contest against Kiski School. The game will be broadcast live by the North Allegheny Sports Network.
