Match 1:  Opening Round Win for the Tigers

The Tigers opened up the 2018-2019 season with a section bye.  This year only 5 schools comprise the North section of the WPIBL: Butler, Mars, North Allegheny, Seneca Valley and Shaler.  With no opponent, both the Tiger teams were awarded an automatic 7-0 win.

The focus of this first event thus became an establishment of averages for the individual tournament held at the end of the regular season.  To qualify, a Varsity Boys bowler must average a minimum of 170 pins per game with a minimum of 21 games bowled; for Varsity Girls, 140 is the threshold.

Leading the Tigers were returning starters Alex and Andrew Cook.  Senior Alex Cook rolled a 223, 184, and 223 (630 series).  Not far behind his older sibling, younger brother sophomore Andrew Cook threw a 204, 196, and 213 (612 series).  Also returning to the starting lineup is sophomore Dylan Scheidler.   Scheidler mustered up a 187, 231, and 173 resulting in a 591 series.  Scheidler’s 231 was the highest game rolled for the day.  New to the team this year is Jeb Jorden.  The only freshman to see varsity action this week, Jorden’s 529 Series (186, 185, 158) put him in contention for the singles championships with a 176 average.

Returning for the Lady Tigers this year, captain junior Julia Jorden started off the season with a strong showing of 167, 221, 196 (584 series).  Sophomore Lexie Robinson added a 202 to boost her average into singles qualification.

Match 2:  Tigers have a split decision with the Shaler Titans

The second contest of the season was held at Perry Park Lanes in McCandless where the NA Tigers took on the Shaler Titans.  The Boys ended the match with 7 match points and a resounding victory. The Lady Tigers were upended by a very strong girls team from Shaler.  After two weeks of play, the girls team from Shaler remains undefeated knocking off Butler and NA, while and the Lady Tigers fall to second place with record of 1-1.

The Boys team rallied early knocking over a season high 1032 pins in game 1.  The second and third games was almost as strong with a 933 and 967, respectively.  By the end of the match the Tigers led the Titans by 544 pins.

NA was led by sophomore, Dylan Scheidler, who bowled a season high 243, 196, and 220.  He bested all bowlers with a 659 series.  Not to be outdone senior, Alex Cook added a 223. Finishing with the second highest series, sophomore Andrew Cook rolled a 206, 200 and 196.  Adding to the onslaught, freshman Jeb Jorden finished the day with a 213.

After two weeks of play, Dylan, Andrew, and Alex sit on top of the leaderboard (1, 2, 3) leading all other bowlers with the Highest Averages in the WPIBL North.

The Lady Tigers were led by sophomore Lexie Robinson’s, 487 series, and junior Julia Jorden’s, 455 series.  Both ladies have had strong showings through the first two events and are in contention for post-season play.

Match 3:  Mars is No Match for the Streaking Tigers.

The North Allegheny Boys and Girls Varsity Bowling Teams hit the road today for their first away match of the season.  The Tigers overwhelmed the Mars Planets knocking them out of orbit on very oily lane conditions.

The Boys’ team remains undefeated in the WPIBL North as they annihilated the Planets 2206 to 925, earning all 7 match points.  The Lady Tigers also outscored Mars 1916 to 692, improving their record to 2-1.

The top 3 female bowlers at today’s competition were all from North Allegheny: Junior Julia Jorden (447), sophomore Lexie Robinson (430), and rookie bowler, junior Anna Betler (370).

On the boys side, the high games of the day were rolled by sophomores Dylan Scheidler (233) and Andrew Cook (225).  A stellar performance was also contributed by junior Dom Cherry, whose 518 Series helped rout the Planets.
