Cathedral Prep Skates Past NA, 3-1

James Sturm scored two goals to help visiting Cathedral Prep defeat North Allegheny at the Baierl Ice Complex, 3-1, on Monday night. The win keeps Prep in third place in the PIHL Class AAA standings and North Allegheny in fourth with two games remaining in the season.

After a scoreless first period, Sturm scored his first goal of the night on a power play at the 5:24 mark of the second period.

The Ramblers added to their lead early in the third period on a marker by Donovan Cullen to bring the score to 2-0. North Allegheny got back into the game on a goal by Tyler Putnam, assisted by Dylan Watkins, with 2:52 remaining in the contest.

The Tigers pulled goalie Richard Karapandi for an extra attacker in the final minute in an attempt to find the equalizer, but Sturm scored his second goal of the night on an empty net with 55 seconds left to play.

Karapandi stopped 22 shots for the Tigers. Cathedral Prep goalie Nick Dinner made 19 saves to earn the win.

Following the loss, North Allegheny falls to 9-5-2 on the season. Cathedral Prep improves to 11-4-1 on the year. The Tigers will visit the Canon-McMillan Big Macs on Tuesday, February 13 at 7:00 p.m. The game will be broadcast live via the internet on the North Allegheny Sports Network.
