Five NA Wrestlers Win Section 3 Gold (Updated)

North Allegheny crowned five individual champions at the Section 3-AAA Tournament on Saturday.  Earning first place medals were Luke Landefeld, Scotty Stossell, Dom Forys, Clay Byerly and Zach Smith.

In the championship bouts, Landefeld won by tech fall over Seneca Valley’s Ben Lynch, 15-0, at 113 pounds. At 120, Stossell earned a 3-2 decision over Mike Heinl of Shaler. Forys pinned Plum’s Tommy Zummo at 126 pounds. At 182 pounds, Byerly claimed a 3-2 overtime decision over the top-seed from Butler, Ryan Hannon.  Smith delivered a tech fall over Nathan Turchick of Plum, 15-0, at 195 pounds.

At 132, Jake Hinkson reached the title bout but fell to Shaler’s Jake Hartmann by major decision, 10-2.  Hinkson’s performance was good for a silver medal.

Other Tigers who medaled included Drew Landefeld (145) who won bronze.  Finishing in fourth place were Zach Stedeford (106), A.J. Boeh (138), and Jake Woodley (160). The top five wrestlers in the section have qualified for the WPIAL championships next week. For all of the results and brackets from the Section 3 tournament, click here.

In all, the Tigers will send 10 wrestlers to the WPIAL Class AAA Individual Wrestling Tournament on Thursday night at 5:30 pm from Canon-McMillan High School.  The tournament will run from Thursday through Saturday.
