Harriton Edges Lady Tigers For PIAA Title

The North Allegheny girls’ tennis fell short of winning a fourth straight PIAA title, dropping a 3-2 decision to District 1 champion Harriton, 1-0, in the PIAA championship on Saturday evening at the Hershey Racquet Club. The loss snapped a 44-match winning streak for North Allegheny.

Sophomore Ashley Huang garnered a 6-3, 6-3, win at No. 3 singles, and the NA duo of Rebekah Rest and Jenna Kolano picked up a 6-4, 6-2, victory at No. 1 doubles. However, Harriton won the remaining matches for a narrow 3-2 win for the PIAA title.

In the semifinals earlier in the day, the Lady Tigers topped Manheim Township, 3-0. Huang, along with seniors Anna Li and Tina Li swept singles play against Manheim Township to earn the win.

North Allegheny, the WPIAL champion, concludes the 2016 season with a record of 23-1. During the last four seasons, the Tigers own an outstanding cumulative record of 93-2. Congratulations to head coach Michelle Weniger and the North Allegheny girls’ tennis team for another amazing season.
