Tigers Clinch Playoff Berth For 19th Straight Year

The North Allegheny varsity Softball Team traveled to Butler High School on Thursday afternoon for an important Section 3 – AAAAAA matchup vs. the Golden Tornado. The Tigers returned home with an 8-5 victory, pounding out eleven hits in the contest. The win clinches a WPIAL playoff berth for the Tigers for the 19th consecutive season.

Junior shortstop Kristen Chomos set the tone in the top of the first inning when she delivered a two-out / two-run home run to deep left center field to give NA an early lead. Butler kept coming at the Tigers, tallying one in the second, two in the third, one in the fifth, and one in the sixth, but a single Tiger run in the fourth and a four-run fifth widened the gap. NA tacked on one in the seventh to close out the scoring. Sophomore Sophia Dollard earned the win in the circle with an excellent relief appearance. Sophomore Bri McDonough and senior Shannon Hamm combined for three RBI’s to help the Tigers attain the win.

For Butler, starter Ali Graham pitched a solid game and also went deep for a home run for the Tornado.

The Tigers are slated to take on the Pine-Richland Rams on Friday afternoon at 4:00 in another key section contest, weather permitting.
