Lady Tigers Blank Panthers in Weather-Shortened Game, 1-0

On a rainy and stormy evening in the south hills, the North Allegheny field hockey team picked up an important win in WPIAL Division I play with a 1-0 decision over the Upper St. Clair Panthers. The game was shortened due to weather conditions and called after one half of play, with the Tigers declared the victor.

The game’s only goal came with 23:23 remaining in the first half on a marker by senior Bridget Russell on a successful penalty corner. Junior Ella Backauskas drew the start in net and earned the shutout, making two saves.

With the win, North Allegheny leaps to 8-5-1 overall and 4-2 in WPIAL Division I. Upper St. Clair slides to 1-4 in division play. The Lady Tigers will take on Hempfield for another division matchup on Tuesday, Oct. 9 at 7:30 p.m.
