Lady Tigers Earn Quality, Rain-Shortened Win Over Fox Chapel

Posted on:

The reigning WPIAL champion North Allegheny girls’ tennis team claimed a rain-shortened 3-0 victory over the third-place finisher in the WPIAL from a year ago, the Fox Chapel Foxes. No. 2 and No. 3 singles play was rained out as the Tigers had already decided the outcome with wins in the three other matchups.

At No. 1 singles, freshman Ava Catanzarite delivered an impressive win over Division I recruit Amanda Nord, 6-4, 6-2. Nord has been to the PIAA finals in two of the last three seasons as a member of medaling doubles teams. The victory by Catanzarite, a nationally-ranked junior tennis player,  was significant in helping NA to the win over Fox Chapel.

In doubles play, the No. 1 duo of Carolyn Tsung and Claire Shao topped Molly Wiese and Emily Fora, 6-2, 6-0. At No. 2 doubles, Katherine Ambrose and Riya Yadav vanquished the Fox Chapel pair of Molly Dean and Amanda Schileher, 6-3, 6-0.

North Allegheny improves to 11-0 overall with the non-section win. The Tigers return to section play on Wednesday with a home meeting with the Pine-Richland Rams.
