Lady Tigers handle Rams, 3-0

Posted on:

Coming into Monday night, North Allegheny had beaten Pine-Richland four straight times. The Lady Tigers extended it to five with a 3-0 defeat of the Lady Rams on a windy night at Newman Stadium. The Tigers have outscored the Rams 17-2 in the last three meetings.

Pine-Richland controlled play in the first five minutes of the game dominating possession but were not able to get a shot on goal. After North Allegheny weathered the storm, Lucia Wells was able to get just enough space from her defender and scored to give the Lady Tigers a 1-0 lead six and a half minutes into the game. From there, North Allegheny would take control of the half. Alexa Spano and Jayden Coy had great chances to score in the half but nothing else was able to fall for the Lady Tigers in the half and they went into the locker room up, 1-0.

It was another early strike to start the second half as three and a half minutes in, Wells centered a ball into the box that deflected off of Pine-Richland defender Megan Roskoph, and into the net and North Allegheny had a 2-0 lead early in the second half. Because Wells was the last Tiger to touch the ball, she was credited with her second goal of the game and ninth of the season. For her efforts, Wells was named the Wright Automotive Player of the Game. Seven minutes later, Anna Bundy picked up her fourth tally of the season extending North Allegheny’s lead to 3-0.

The Tigers defense of Spano and Kena Shannon along with keeper Megan Miller was once again outstanding. The Lady Tigers posted their sixth straight shutout to start the season. North Allegheny had five shutouts all of last season.

North Allegheny improves to 6-0 overall and 2-0 in Section 1-AAAA. Pine-Richland falls to 2-3 and 0-2 in the section. The Lady Tigers now prepare for a huge section matchup against Butler, who is also 6-0, Wednesday on the road at 7:30 pm.
