Lady Tigers Win 18th Straight, Spear Spartans, 61-50

Strengthening their case for the top-seed in the WPIAL post-season bracket, the North Allegheny Lady Tigers rallied to beat the playoff-bound Hempfield Spartans on Saturday afternoon, 61-50.  North Allegheny trailed 42-31 after three quarters, but the Lady Tigers roared back with a 30 point outburst in the final period.

Junior Devvin Labarge, and sophomores Taylor Lake and Abby Gonzales led the charge, combining for 28 of the Tigers 30 points in the final stanza.  LaBarge scored a team-high 17 points and drained four three-pointers in the game. Lake netted 15 points and was 6 of 7 from the free-throw line.  Gonzales scored 14 points in NA’s winning effort.

For Hempfield, IUP-recruit Monica Burns poured in a game-high 18 points and was 7 for 7 from the charity stripe. Lexi Irwin reached double digits with 11.

North Allegheny improves to 19-1 overall with the non-section win.  Hempfield, the third place finisher out of Section 1-AAAA, drops to 14-8 on the season.  The Lady Tigers will play a final tune-up game on Monday night against the Chartiers Valley Colts before the WPIAL playoff brackets are released on Tuesday.
