Landefeld, Byerly Advance To Quarterfinals In Hershey

North Allegheny sent three representatives to the PIAA Class AAA Individual Wrestling Tournament in Hershey and all three are alive after day one of action at the Giant Center.

Freshman Luke Landefeld earned a 4-2 decision over Travis Smith of Nazareth at 113 pounds.  In the quarterfinals this afternoon, Landefeld will take on General McClane’s Joe Wheeling who boasts a record of 35-1 this season.  Landefeld improves to 35-8 with his opening round victory over Smith.

At 182 pounds, junior Clay Byerly collected a 6-4 decision over Caleb Edwards of Avon Grove. Byerly, now 36-8 on the campaign, dealt Edwards just his third loss of the season and advances to face Casey Glunt of James Buchanon High School in the quarterfinals.  Glunt is 33-7 on the year.

North Allegheny 195 pounder, Zach Smith, suffered a first round setback to Governor Mifflin’s Jan Johnson, 7-1, to start the day but rebounded with an 11-1 major decision over Wesley McGuire of Coatesville in the consolation bracket. Smith awaits his next opponent in the second round of the consolation bracket today.
