Mars has won four straight WPIAL Class 2A Championships (2016-2019) and tonight the Fightin’ Planets showed why they are a favorite once again, defeating North Allegheny 17-5 in a non-section and cross classification match-up at Newman Stadium.

Josh Seipp. Wes Scurci, Nick Crowley and Scurci again gave Mars a 4-0 lead less than five minutes into the contest. Ryan Barry got the Tigers on the board with a man-up goal at 6:54 of the first quarter. Senior Ben Rohan followed that with his first of two goals on the night to make it 5-2. After another Crowley goal ended the first quarter, Christian Tedder scored a man advantage goal :21 into the second to again make it a two-goal match.

Mars would net the next four goals to take a 9-3 halftime lead. North Allegheny again scored an early goal as Mason Kress netted his first of the season 1:33 into the 3rd quarter to make the score 9-4. Mars would score the next three goals before Rohan closed out the quarter with his 5th goal of the season to make it a 12-5 Mars lead after three periods. Unfortunately, that would be the final marker of the night for the (2-1) Tigers.

Scurci and Crowley each finished with four goals for Mars while Loyola (Md.) bound Austin Cote and Seipp added hat tricks for the (5-0) Fightin’ Planets.

Congratulations on the night go out to the Tigers junior midfielder and face-off specialist Ryan Barry who was named the Wright Automotive Player of the Match. Barry’s goal was his first of the season and once again Barry was good on draws in the midfield circle for North Allegheny.

The Tigers return to 3A Section 2 action on Wednesday when they host the Central Catholic Vikings at 7:30 p.m. The match will be broadcast live via the internet on the North Allegheny Sports Network.
