Mila Prusak’s Natural Hat Trick Sparks 5-0 Win Over Norwin

Posted on:

In a one-sided affair at Newman Stadium on Thursday night, the North Allegheny field hockey team won its third straight section game by blanking the Norwin Knights, 5-0. The win was the Tigers fifth in a row against the Knights and the 21st in the last 22 meetings with their section foe.

The Tigers started fast and scored 2:12 into the game on a marker by sophomore Tanvi Challa for an immediate 1-0 lead. The goal by Challa, her first of the season and second of her career, came on the first penalty corner opportunity of the night.

From there, junior forward Mila Prusak took over the game with three consecutive goals for a natural hat trick. Prusak’s first goal came with 2:23 remaining in the first period for a 2-0 lead. Her second marker tickled the back of the Norwin net just 15 seconds into the second quarter and Prusak’s third tally was delivered on a nifty tip-in with 4:59 left in the half. Prusak’s deflection came on a hard pass played into the circle by freshman Mia Brinkley and gave the Tigers a 4-0 lead at intermission.

In the third quarter, junior Lauren Kampi tallied her seventh goal of the season, matching Prusak for the team lead, by lofting a fantastic reverse chip shot over the reaching stick of Norwin goalie Liz Long to increase the NA lead to 5-0.

Junior goalie Jordan Ashbaugh was never challenged in posting her fourth shutout of the season.

With the win, North Allegheny improves to 4-4 overall and 4-1 in Section 1-AAA. Norwin falls to 1-3 in section play. The Tigers will host a doubleheader against Novi (MI) and Forbes Road on Saturday at Newman Stadium. Both games will be broadcast live by the North Allegheny Sports Network.
