Monper, Plichta Dazzle In 5-1 Win Over Pine-Richland

Posted on:

North Allegheny pitchers limited fourth-ranked Pine-Richland to just two hits and the Tigers topped the Rams on Thursday afternoon, 5-1, for a non-section road win.  Right-hander Jason Monper (1-1) earned the victory with four solid innings on the bump and southpaw Jon Dignazio picked up his first save of the year with three scoreless innings of relief.

North Allegheny scored early against Pine-Richland starter Nick Roth to give Monper and Dignazio all the run support necessary. In the first inning, Dan Trettel provided the Tigers a 1-0 lead with an RBI single to score Josh Plichta. In the second inning, Plichta delivered with a bases clearing, three-run double for a 4-0 Tigers advantage. Plichta capped the scoring in the top of the sixth with an RBI single.  Pine-Richland’s lone run crossed the plate in the third inning on a Daane Berezo sacrifice fly.

In all, Plichta finished with a 4 for 4 day with three RBI’s and a run scored. NA’s Garrett Hagen collected two hits in two at bats with a walk and two runs scored.

The win, North Allegheny’s fourth in a row, gives the Tigers an overall record of 7-2.  Pine-Richland falls to 9-4 on the season.  The Tigers will host a day-night doubleheader on Saturday with a 1:00 pm meeting with Plum and a 7:00 pm contest with Mt. Lebanon.
