Moturi, Naik Fall in Section 2 Semi-Finals
Outdoors on the NASH courts Tuesday afternoon in windy conditions, senior Soureesh Moturi and junior Ven Naik each competed in the semi-final round of the AAA Section 2 Singles Tournament.
Naik tangled with Sewickley Academy’s ace and #1 seed Arjan Beddi and fell in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2. Moturi took on Moon’s ace, Nick Magnelli (2nd seed) and fell in identical fashion, 6-0, 6-2. The results of both contests meant that Naik and Moturi would square off in the consolation round. The two Tigers played a tenacious, three set match that saw Naik as the victor, 5-7, 6-0, 6-4.
Reaching the semi-finals ensured both Tigers a spot in next week’s WPIAL AAA Singles Championship, set to begin Monday, April 15 on the NASH courts. Naik will be the 3 seed and Moturi the 4 seed from Section 2. Congratulations to both Tigers!
