NA Advances To PIAA Final Four With Sweep Of Elizabethtown

The North Allegheny girls’ volleyball team advanced to the PIAA semifinals on Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 quarterfinal round sweep of Elizabethtown at Altoona High School. The Tigers earned the win by set scores of 25-15, 25-20 and 25-15.

After cruising to a win in the opening set, North Allegheny fell behind 12-7 in set two. The Tigers responded with a 7-0 run that was spearheaded by the serves of Rebecca Pilotta. Tied 14-14, NA claimed eight of the next 10 points to roll to a 25-20 win.

In set three, NA trailed Elizabethtown, 10-9, before scoring nine in a row and was once again sparked by the serves of Pilotta to take control. Finishing the night with a team-high five aces, Pilotta was named the Wright Automotive Player of the Game.

It was another strong day overall for the Tigers, epitomized by junior Mia Tuman with 23 assists, 13 digs and nine kills. Junior Ella Deeter added to the attack with eight kills and two aces. Senior Jadyn Perkins tallied seven kills and team-high seven blocks.

On defense, junior libero Caroline Curran tallied a team-best 15 digs, followed by sophomore Avery Butcher with 10 digs.

North Allegheny improves to 18-1 overall and will face section rival Shaler in the PIAA semifinals on Tuesday night at a site and time to be determined. The match will be broadcast live via the internet on the North Allegheny Sports Network.
