NA Boys Win Title At New Year’s Meet Challenge At Bucknell

Competing against some of the top teams in the state of Pennsylvania, the North Allegheny swimming team delivered an impressive showing at the New Year’s Meet Challenge at Bucknell University on Saturday. The NA boys claimed gold with a team score of 107, while the Lady Tigers placed sixth with a team score of 41.

For the NA boys’ squad, the combination of Jack Wright, Jacob McCarran, Branko Kosanovich and Joel Songer took first place in the 200-yard medley relay. The Tigers dominated the podium in the 100-yard butterfly as Rick Mihm, Kosanovich and Tolik Borisov finished first through third in the event. In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Wright, Borisov, Mihm and Josh Galecki won gold. Wright also placed first in the 100-yard freestyle. Senior Jerry Chen and McCarran placed first and second, respectively, in the 100-yard breaststroke. The 400-yard freestyle relay combo of Wright, Mihm, Kosanovich and Songer took first place as well.  Senior John Ehling earned bronze in the 200-yard IM, as did Kosanovich in the 100-yard backstroke.

For the Lady Tigers, junior Torie Buerger won gold in the 100-yard backstroke. Sophomore Molly Smyers garnered fourth place in the 200-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly. Fourth-place honors also went to the 400-yard freestyle relay team of Smyers, Buerger, Lila McGrath and Olivia Kisow.
