NA Falls To Canon-McMillan

The North Allegheny ice hockey team dropped a 6-2 decision to Canon-McMillan on Tuesday night at the Printscape Arena in Southpointe. The Big Macs broke a 2-2 tie with three straight goals late in the second period to propel themselves to a third consecutive win.

In the first period, senior Dakota Albarano scored at the 8:46 mark to give Canon-McMillan a 1-0 lead. North Allegheny took advantage of a 5-on-3 power play and Trey Gallo netted his sixth goal of the season at the 13:42 mark of the first to even the score at 1-1.

Early in the second period, CM’s Christian Trottier blocked a shot and snuck a wrist shot past the NA keeper to give the Big Macs a 2-1 lead 54 seconds into the stanza. Granted a power play opportunity, the Tigers cashed in once again when senior Tyler Sippel pushed home a loose-puck rebound to knot the contest at 2-2 at the 5:33 mark of the second period. With one goal and one assist, Sippel was named the Wright Automotive Player of the Game.

The tide turned late in the second period when senior Logan Ford scored back-to-back goals and Daniel Garver tallied another, all in the last four minutes of the period, to give Canon-McMillan a 5-2 advantage heading to the third period.

Senior Josh Hripp netted an empty-net goal with 1:16 remaining in the third to close out a 6-2 victory for the Big Macs.

North Allegheny slips to 10-2-1 on the season and remains in first place in Class AAA. Canon-McMillan improves to 7-4 on the year. The Tigers are off for the holiday break and return to action on Jan. 6 against Mt. Lebanon.
