NA Fends Off Upper St. Clair To Stay Perfect, 5-4

The North Allegheny ice hockey team remained perfect on the young season with a 5-4 victory against Upper St. Clair on Thursday night at the Baierl Ice Complex in Warrendale. The Tigers built a 4-1 lead in the second period and staved off the Panthers comeback bid to improve to 4-0 on year. Upper St. Clair falls to 2-2 overall.

North Allegheny wasted little time in scoring the first goal of the night as Tyler Putnam tickled the back of the USC net just 1:31 into the contest for a 1-0 lead. Upper St. Clair evened the score at 1-1 at the 4:51 mark of the first period thanks to a Devin Rohrich goal. Following a cross-checking call on USC late in the period, senior Will Parreaguirre netted a power play goal to give NA the lead back, 2-1, at the 12:51 mark of the opening stanza.

In the second period, North Allegheny expanded the lead to 4-1 on goals from Christopher Hanlon and Tyler Mark. USC cut the NA lead to 4-3 on markers from Andrew Woomer and Colton Shiry, the second of which coming at the 11:54 mark of the period. The Tigers swung the momentum back in their direction when Tyler Sippel scored with just six seconds remaining in the second period for a 5-3 lead.

Upper St. Clair made things tighter with a power play goal by Woomer 3:36 into the third period but North Allegheny staved off the Panthers the rest of the way and hung on for a 5-4 victory.

In net, Tyler Boyles picked up his second win of the week by making 33 saves. USC’s Jake Fisher stopped 23 pucks in a losing effort.

North Allegheny will have the weekend to enjoy the win before a Monday night visit to Butler to take on the Golden Tornado at 7:10 p.m.
