NA Girls Win Silver, Boys Bronze At States

Senior Jacquelyn Du won the PIAA individual championship in the 100-yard backstroke with a school-record time of 53.29 as the North Allegheny girls finished as PIAA runners-up, only five points behind Class AAA state champion Hershey.  Du also finished third in the 50-yard freestyle, and teamed with senior Kayla Churman and juniors Erin Kuhn and Katie Wright to win the 200-yard medley championship with a time of 1:42.92.

Also among the girls, senior Morgan Soulia also set a school record in the 100-yard freestyle, in which she finished third with a time of 50.96.  She also finished fourth in the 200-yard freestyle.  The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Du, Soulia, Churman and sophomore Lauren McGrath set a school record of 3:23.27 and finished second.  Kuhn finished fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.69), freshman Ann Juneau finished fifth in the 200-yard individual medley (2:03.54), and Churman finished fifth in the 100-yard butterfly (55.95).

The boys’ team finished third, behind champion La Salle College and runner-up Upper St. Clair.  Senior Casey Melzer finished third in the 100-yard breaststroke with a school-record time of 55.58.  Melzer also finished third in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:50.37.  The 200-yard medley relay team of Melzer, senior Greg Arnold, sophomore Max Gonzalez and senior Max Staresinic finished fifth in 1:32.98.  The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Staresinic, junior Daniel Songer, sophomore Eben Krigger and freshman Mason Gonzalez finished fourth with a time of 1:24.61.  The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Melzer, Arnold, Krigger and Mason Gonzalez finished fifth with a time of 3:07.57.
