NA Grabs Gold At All-American Invitational

Senior Erin Kuhn, juniors Eben Krigger and Lauren McGrath, and sophomore Mason Gonzalez all finished first in two individual events as the North Allegheny girls and boys swimming teams each finished first at the six-team All American Invitational hosted by Holy Redeemer High School in Wilkes-Barre on January 15 and 16.  The NA girls finished with 803.5 points, well ahead of second-place Radnor, which finished with 423.  The NA boys finished with 678 points, 100 points ahead of second-place Hempfield.  The other teams at the meet were Springfield and Southern Lehigh, along with Holy Redeemer. For the girls, Kuhn won the 100-yard butterfly in 59.23 and the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:06.95.  McGrath won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:53.43 and the 100-yard freestyle in 52.45.  The other first-place finishers were senior Gianna Caputo in the 500-yard freestyle (5:18.48) and sophomore Ann Juneau in the 200-yard individual medley (2:10.32).

The NA girls also took first in the 200-yard medley relay (Kuhn, Juneau, senior Katie Wright and junior Anna Verardi); the 200-yard freestyle relay (McGrath, Juneau, Kuhn and junior Aimee Verardi) and the 400-yard freestyle relay (Caputo, Wright, McGrath and Anna Verardi). Among the boys, Krigger won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:42.00 and the 500-yard freestyle in 4:41.41, while Gonzalez won the 50-yard freestyle in 20.97 and the 100-yard freestyle in 46.40.  The other first-place finishers for the boys were senior Colin MacDonald in the 100-yard backstroke (53.42) and sophomore Andrew Zhang in the 100-yard butterfly (52.44).

The NA boys took first in the 200-yard medley relay (MacDonald, seniors Gage Halle and Dan Songer, and junior Max Gonzalez); the 200-yard freestyle relay (Krigger, Songer, Mason Gonzalez and freshman Jack Wright) and the 400-yard freestyle relay (Krigger, Wright and the Gonzalez brothers). The was no diving at the Wilkes-Barre meet.

The NA Swimming and Diving teams are next in action on Thursday, January 21, when they host Moon at North Allegheny Senior High School.
