NA Ice Hockey Drops First Of Season, 4-2

The North Allegheny ice hockey team suffered its first loss of the season with a 4-2 road defeat to Canon-McMillan at Southpointe. The Big Macs broke a 2-2 tie in the third period with a pair of goals from Logan Ford, including one short-handed marker. Ford finished with a hat trick for CM.

After a scoreless first period, the game opened up as both teams netted a pair of goals in the second stanza. North Allegheny’s Kevin Hart scored the first of the night at the 7:20 mark of the period, assisted by Christopher Hanlon and Justin Symons, for a 1-0 lead. Just two minutes later, Joshua Hrip scored a power play goal for CM to knot the score at 1-1.

At the 10:39 mark of the second period, Ford scored his first of three on the night to propel the Big Macs to a 2-1 advantage. North Allegheny got even with a goal by Dylan Watkins, assisted by Tyler Lamark, with 3:48 remaining in the period to bring the score to a 2-2 deadlock.

With a 2-2 tie after two periods, that set the stage for the big third period by Ford and the Big Macs.

Canon-McMillan goalie Mario Eafrati made 28 saves to earn the victory. North Allegheny’s Josh Bailey got the start in net and posted 24 stops.

North Allegheny slips to 4-1 following the loss but still remains in first place in Class AAA. The win is the first for Canon-McMillan this season, improving the Big Macs record to 1-3 on the campaign. The Tigers look to bounce back with a home date on Monday with the Central Catholic Vikings.
