NA Ice Hockey Remains Unbeaten, Tops Canon-Mac

The North Allegheny ice hockey team continued its strong start to the season with a 4-2 win at Canon-McMillan on Tuesday night. Senior Joseph Zappia scored a pair of goals to help keep the Tigers undefeated on the campaign.

The goals by Zappia were the first two of the night, jumpstarting the Tigers to a 2-0 lead. The second goal by Zappia came 1:28 in to the second period. North Allegheny’s lead swelled to 3-0 when junior Cameron Zahn scored at the 5:39 mark of the period.

Canon-McMillan finally answered with its first goal on a marker by Lucas Lavella with 5:11 to play in the second period to cut the Tigers lead to 3-1. The score stayed that way until 42 seconds remained in the third period as Lavella struck again to give the Big Macs hope, trimming the score to 3-2. North Allegheny dashed Canon-McMillan’s comeback bid with an empty net goal by Dawson Richard with one second remaining to bring the final score to 4-2, Tigers.

In net, senior Joseph Hubert picked up the win and stopped 24 pucks. Canon-McMillan’s Conor Hartnett made 25 saves in a losing effort.

North Allegheny maintains an undefeated record with the win, improving to 3-0-1 on the season. Canon-McMillan slips to 1-2-1 on the year. The Tigers return home to Warrendale on Monday night with a home contest against Peters Township. Start time is slated for 7:00 pm.
