The North Allegheny ice hockey team improved to 6-1-1 on the season on Monday night by edging the Plum Mustangs, 2-1. Aaron Miller scored both of NA’s goals, including the game-winning marker at the 6:03 mark of the third period to lift the Tigers to the victory.

The game was dominated by defense and goaltending through the first period and deep into the second period. North Allegheny goalie Richard Karapandi stopped 23 of 24 shots on net to earn the victory, while Plum’s Sergio Benetiz made 28 saves.

The Tigers broke through for the game’s first goal when Miller scored with 4:26 to play in the second period. Bernardo Vieira and Tyler Lamark provided the helpers on the goal.

Plum tied the game at 1-1 on an unassisted goal by Nicholas Pushic 2:17 in to the third period. The score remained deadlocked until Miller’s heroics provided North Allegheny with the margin of victory. Miller’s second goal was assisted by Haden Shimko.

North Allegheny remains in second place in the Class AAA standings with points, just two behind first-place Peters Township. The Tigers will have some time off before visiting Mt. Lebanon on Monday, December 11.
