NA Prevails Over Penn-Trafford To Advance To WPIAL Championship

The North Allegheny boys’ volleyball team is returning to the WPIAL Class 3A championship following a 3-0 win over Penn-Trafford on Monday night in the WPIAL semifinals. The Tigers defeated the Warriors by set scores of 25-14, 25-22 and 25-22.

The Tigers started strong and jumped out to a 7-3 lead in the first set thanks to Nico Sfier and Jax Wilhite with two kills each. North Allegheny increased the lead to 18-8 and senior Cole Dorn was getting it done with three kills and three aces.  The Tigers eventually closed out the first set, 25-14.

In set two, the Warriors played even with the Tigers most of the way. Penn-Trafford led North Allegheny 16-15 behind the strong play of Andrew Kessler and Alex Rugh. In turn, the Tigers were strong at the net for the remainder of the set behind two blocks from Jack Birch and two kills from Caleb Schall for a 25-22 win.

In the third set, Varun Kaveti started with two kills and a block but the Tigers could not pull away as the game was tied 19-19.  The Tigers closed things out by getting two more kills form Birch and Dorn and some terrific libero play from Ryan Treser, earning a 25-22 triumph.

On the night, Sfeir was everywhere on the court with nine kills and three blocks, which earned him the Wright Automotive Player of the Match honors. Additionally, Dorn had 13 kills and four aces, Jack Birch posted 10 kills and three blocks, Treser tallied 12 digs and two aces and Schall totaled a team-best 35 assists.

North Allegheny will go after their 12th WPIAL title in the past 14 years when they face Seneca Valley on Wednesday night at 8 p.m. from Robert Morris University.  You can listen to the match on the North Allegheny Sports Network.
