North Allegheny took the opportunity to rest many of its starters, and it was their backups who took center stage and led the Tigers to a 16-1 win over the Dragons.

Sophomore Sam Porter netted his sixth goal of the season 37 seconds into the contest and the Tigers were off and running. Jonathan Castillo scored his 19th of the year before Porter found the net again to put North Allegheny in front 3-0. Junior Nick Palone, who assisted on the Castillo goal, took a feed from the freshman and found the net again and the Tigers led 4-0 after the first quarter.

Castillo started the second quarter with his second of the night before Marcus Wahila scored the only Allderdice goal to make the score 5-1. North Allegheny would score the final 11 goals on the night.

Jonathan Mowry added his first of the season and Sean Boal followed suit with his initial tally of 2023. M.J. Schwemmer scored his third of the year and the score at the half was 8-1.

The same names and familiar results for NA as the second half got underway. Boal and Palone scored their second goals of the game before senior Daniel Porter added his first of the year to put North Allegheny up 11-1.

Palone completed the hat trick before Schwemmer’s second goal put the running clock in motion late in the third quarter.

One of the big story lines for the Tigers in the game came to fruition less than two minutes into the fourth quarter.

Beck Taucher, who normally sees action for North Allegheny between the pipes, started and played the game at attack with sophomore Logan Lyle in net.

Taucher’s teammates made a concerted effort to get the senior a goal and that happened to make the score 14-1. Derek Walker added a sweet underhand goal before Boal capped off the scoring with his third goal to make the final score 16-1.

With the win, North Allegheny improved to (7-4, 5-0) and with two section contests remaining, the Tigers control their own destiny as far as the section title and second straight undefeated section slate is concerned.

With a hat trick and an assist, Nick Palone was named the Wright Automotive Player of the Game.

North Allegheny heads out for a township road trip, with contests Friday night at Peters Township and Saturday afternoon against Manheim Township before returning home Monday for a Senior Night matchup against Butler, which will be broadcast on the North Allegheny Sports Network.
