Swimming & Diving News

It was a night to remember.  There were no teams, there was no “Us against Them”.  Every swimmer and coach from at least 10 different teams were cheering on all last-ditch swimmers, as they swam their respective events in order to qualify for the WPIAL Swimming Championships. It was a great show of solidarity, which resulted in 47 WPIAL cuts achieved from all teams participating.

As for North Allegheny, qualifying times for multiple events were achieved by the following swimmers: Ben Gavran (200 and 500 Free), Ethan Berty (200 and 500 Free), Kara Mihm (50 and 100 Free), Lily Courville (100 Fly and 100 Breast), Sophia Huwar (200 IM and 100 Breast), Vivien Li (200 IM and 100 Back) and Quinn Frost (100 Fly and 100 Breast).  Single qualifying cuts were made by the following NA swimmers: 200 Free – Michaela Hinkson, RJ Swanson, Richard Jensen and Matt Turzai.  200 IM – Olivia Kraus.  100 Fly – Haley Miller, Tyler Tieppo and Hayden Klein. 100 Free – Zack Jubeck and Stweart Messer.  500 Free – Mikayla Tieppo and Madeline Harris. 100 Back – Olivia Kisow, Tim Compton and Audric Pastor.  100 Breast – Ella Ogden, Lexi Sundgren and Jacob Yarosz.

The championship meets are up next.  The NA Diving Team will compete at the WPIAL Diving Championships, which will be held at the NASH pool on Saturday, February 22, 2020.  It will start at 8 a.m.  The NA Swimming Team will compete at the WPIAL Swimming Championships, which will be held at the University of Pittsburgh Trees Pool on February 27 and 28, with the meet starting at 9:45 a.m. on both days.
