Tigers Ride Wave Past Titans

Senior Gage Halle won two individual events as the North Allegheny swimming and diving teams improved to 12-0 in WPIAL dual meets by sweeping Shaler Area on Tuesday, February 9.  The boys won 97-67, while the girls won 94-57.

Halle won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:01.93 and the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:01.64.  Other first-place finishers among the boys were sophomore Mason Gonzalez in the 200-yard freestyle (1:43.97); junior Max Gonzalez in the 50-yard freestyle (22.34); senior Colin MacDonald in the 100-yard butterfly (56.72); freshman Jack Wright in the 100-yard freestyle (50.41); and junior Eben Krigger in the 500-yard freestyle (5:14.67).  In the relays, MacDonald, Wright, Max Gonzalez and sophomore Matt Kuhn won the 400-yard medley relay in 1:41.23, while Wright and Max Gonzalez teamed with senior Daniel Songer and sophomore Andrew Zhang to win the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:29.98.  The 400-yard freestyle relay also went to North Allegheny, with Songer, Krigger, Mason Gonzalez and junior Brett Edwards winning in 3:17.53.

Among the girls, first-place finishers were junior Megan Christy in the 200-yard freestyle (2:00.59); sophomore Kristine Mihm in the 200-yard individual medley (2:19.26); junior Aimee Verardi in the 50-yard freestyle (25.91); junior Caitlyn Edwards in the 100-yard butterfly (1:06.75); junior Lauren McGrath in the 100-yard freestyle (52.62); senior Gianna Caputo in the 500-yard freestyle (5:26.96); and senior Katie Wright in the 100-yard backstroke (1:05.06).  In the relays, Caputo, Edwards, sophomore Ann Juneau and freshman Mary Liz Flavin won the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:46.93, while Juneau, Flavin, Aimee Verardi and senior Erin Kuhn won the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:44.20.  The 200-yard medley relay also went to North Allegheny, with Mihm, Edwards, Aimee Verardi and sophomore Serena Yan winning in 1:57.72.

There were no diving competitions for boys or girls.
