NA Swimmers Sail By Seneca Valley

Junior Eben Krigger won two individual events and was part of two winning relay teams as the North Allegheny swimming and diving teams stayed perfect in WPIAL dual meets by sweeping Seneca Valley on Thursday, February 4 at North Allegheny Senior High School.  The boys won 93-83, while the girls won 99-82.

Krigger won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:43.87 and the 100-yard freestyle in 48.19.  He also teamed with junior Max Gonzalez, sophomore Mason Gonzalez and freshman Jack Wright to win the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:27.12, and with the Gonzalez brothers and senior Daniel Songer to win the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:13.08.  Among the boys, other first-place finishers were Max Gonzalez in the 200-yard individual medley (1:57.65); senior Mack Pelo in the 50-yard freestyle (23.59); sophomore Andrew Zhang in the 100-yard butterfly (54.96); Mason Gonzalez in the 500-yard freestyle (4:39.85); senior Colin MacDonald in the 100-yard backstroke (56.41); and sophomore Tom McCaffrey in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:05.12).  Zhang, Wright and MacDonald teamed with senior Gage Halle to win the 200-yard medley relay in 1:54.73.  Stephen Savchik won the diving with a high score of 215.15.

Among the girls, first-place finishers were sophomore Ann Juneau in the 200-yard individual medley (2:12.88); junior Lauren McGrath in the 50-yard freestyle (24.26); senior Erin Kuhn in the 100-yard butterfly (54.96); senior Katie Wright in the 500-yard freestyle (4:39.85); senior Gianna Caputo in the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.46); and sophomore Serena Yan in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:12.02).  In the relays, Caputo and Yan teamed with junior Megan Christy and freshman Mary Liz Flavin to win the 200-yard medley relay in 1:54.73, while Kuhn, Wright and Caputo teamed with freshman Lila McGrath to win the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:43.21.  Kuhn and Lauren McGrath teamed with juniors Aimee Verardi and Caitlyn Edwards to win the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:44.97.  Junior Maddie Mianzo won the girls diving with a score of 235.80.

The North Allegheny swimming and diving teams are next in action on Tuesday, February 9, 2016, when they travel to Shaler Area.
