NA Swimming Sweeps Butler

The North Allegheny swimming and diving teams swept Butler in a sectional dual meet Thursday evening at the Butler High School pool.  The NA Girls won by a score of 130-56 and the NA Boys won by the score of 118-62.

It was another strong showing from the North Allegheny Divers.

Junior Will Schenk continued his undefeated season and had the highest score of the evening, earning a 270.95. Junior Alex Palermo placed second with a score of 180.80 and qualified for WPIALS. Freshman Andrew Wasco placed third with a score of 123.20.

For the girls, freshman Lola Malarky placed second with a score of 216.25. Senior Eva Betz scored a 195.70 and Junior Faith Miller scored a 152.65.

On the swimming side, the Lady Tigers started the meet strong with a 1-2 finish in the 200-yard medley relay. The winning relay was composed of junior Rebecca Melanson, sophomore Natalie Sens, senior Brooke Glinski, and junior Delaney Kennedy.

The girls dominated all three relay events with another 1-2 finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The winning team included junior Marissa Milliron, freshman Ava Sharar, junior Sophia Huwar, and sophomore Greta Mott.

The final relay, the 400-yard freestyle relay, was won by the team of freshman May Coffman, juniors Vivien Li, Rebecca Melanson, and Delaney Kennedy.

Junior captain Lexi Sundgren had the first individual win for the girls in the 200-yard individual medley.

Sens had a first place showing in the 50-yard freestyle and a third place in the 500-yard freestyle events.

Mott claimed first place in the 100-yard freestyle.

Kennedy had a first-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle and a second-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle.

Freshman Julianne Weaver scored a victory in the 100-yard backstroke and Sharar won the 100-yard breaststroke event.

For the boys, the depth of the NA team outmatched the Butler boys.  The NA boys had a 2-3-4 finish in the first relay, the 200-yard medley relay.

They had another 2-3-4 finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

In the final event, the NA boys claimed first and second in the 400-yard freestyle relay.  The winning relay consisted of freshman Augustus Miller, sophomore Camden Wright, junior David Shi, and freshman Andrew Li.

Senior Jacob Yarosz claimed a victory in the first individual event for the boys, the 200-yard freestyle.

Senior Captain Stewart Messer had a strong meet finishing first in the 100-yard butterfly and second in the 100-yard breaststroke.

Freshman Grant Regule scored a victory in the 100-yard backstroke.

The NA freestyle sprinters had some impressive races facing one of the fastest swimmers in the state from Butler, Benjamin Borvendeg.  Although Benjamin won the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle events, NA was very competitive in both events. In the 50-yard freestyle, NA finished a strong 2-3-4 with junior Ben Gavran, junior Keller Sens, and Regule. In the 100-yard freestyle, NA again finished 2-3-4 with Gavran, Sens, and junior Zachary Jubeck.

NA will be home for another sectional dual meet against Pine Richland on Thursday, Jan. 27 at 6 pm.
