NA Tops North Hills On Senior Night
Seniors Katie Wright and Gage Halle, and junior Lauren McGrath, each won two individual events as the North Allegheny swimming and diving teams swept North Hills on Wednesday, February 17, 2016, completing the WPIAL season undefeated in dual meets. The girls won on Senior Night 95.5-82.5, while the boys won 101-77.
Wright won the 50-yard freestyle in 25.42 and the 100-yard backstroke in 1:04.45, while McGrath won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:16.84 and the 100-yard freestyle in 52.31. Other first-place finishers in individual events among the girls were senior Gianna Caputo in the 200-yard freestyle (2:01.33) and sophomore Ann Juneau in the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.19). In the relay races, Wright and Caputo teamed with fellow seniors Erin Kuhn and Taylor McClellen to win the 200-yard medley relay in 1:54.97, and the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:48.21. Juneau teamed with junior Anna Verardi and freshmen Emily Cuba and Ally Christy to win the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:46.06. Junior Maddie Mianzo won the diving competition with a score of 235.45.
Among the boys, Halle won the 100-yard freestyle in 50.08 and the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:02.61. Other first-place finishers in individual events among the boys were freshman Jack Wright in the 200-yard freestyle (1:48.21); senior Daniel Songer in the 200-yard individual medley (2:04.22); junior Max Gonzalez in the 100-yard butterfly (53.27); senior Michael Struk in the 500-yard freestyle (5:01.30); and sophomore Andrew Zhang in the 100-yard backstroke (54.56). The senior trio of Struk, Halle and Songer teamed with fellow senior Colin MacDonald to win the 200-yard medley relay in 1:40.53, then teamed with another senior, Mac Pelo, to win the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:33.05. The 400-yard freestyle relay went to Struk, Gonzalez and juniors Eric Staab and Eben Krigger, finishing in 3:18.72. Senior Stephen Savchik won the diving with a score of 259.55.
The North Allegheny swimming and diving teams host the annual Last Ditch meet on Saturday, February 20 at North Allegheny Senior High School.
