NA Upended By Mars In Non-Section Contest
Sabrina Edwards’ hat trick powered Mars to a 4-0 halftime lead as the Planets topped the North Allegheny Lady Tigers on Saturday night, 6-3. The Planets built a 6-0 advantage by the 57th minute of the second half to secure the non-section victory.
Despite the large deficit, the Lady Tigers refused to go away quietly with three late-game goals. In the 68th minute, senior Maria Gonchar scored off a direct kick from junior Gabby Smychynsky to cut the score to 6-1, Mars. Gonchar struck again just eight minutes later on a through ball by senior Megan Barfuss to bring the game to 6-2, Planets. Senior Savana Yurick finished the scoring in the 79th minute with a goal that was assisted by Smychynsky to bring the final score to 6-3.
North Allegheny falls to 4-2 overall with the non-section loss. The Lady Tigers look to rebound on Monday night with a section matchup at Shaler.
