The North Allegheny Lady Tigers took the field Saturday afternoon undefeated and in first place in Section 1-AAAA.  Following an 80-minute non-section match against Upper Saint Clair, the Tigers would remain atop the section but did suffer their first loss of the season to the Panthers, 3-1.

The Panthers struck first when Landy Mertz scored the first goal for a 1-0 lead.  NA senior defender Caroline Noel, off an assist from Sarah Schupansky, tied the game at 1-1 before halftime with a well-timed and well-placed header that found the back of the net.

Six minutes into the second half, Lady Panthers midfielder Landy Mertz scored her second goal of the game to put USC back in front, 2-1.   The Lady Tigers’ offense, led by senior Alex Adams, juniors Ava Ruppersberger, Bella Pietropola, and Hannah Kirkpatrick, and sophomore Schupansky pressed, but could not get an equalizer.  Seniors Jordan Bourkab and Morgan McConnell had some good chances but the Lady Panthers defense was up to the challenge.  Nikki Gibbons of USC finished off the scoring to make the final 3-1.

North Allegheny sits at 4-1 overall following the loss to USC. The Panthers improve to 3-2 on the season. The Lady Tigers return to section play tonight with a home contest against the Fox Chapel Foxes. The game will be broadcast live via the internet on the North Allegheny Sports Network.
