North Allegheny Knocks Off Novi For 5th Straight Win

The North Allegheny field hockey team won its fifth game in a row on Saturday with a 3-1 victory over Novi (MI). The Tigers used two goals by senior Bridget Russell in the second half to pull away for the win.

Making the long trip from the Great Lakes State, Novi played tough with North Allegheny in the first half as the only goal in the first 30 minutes game from junior Hailey Wachowiak with 4:50 on the clock, for a 1-0 Tigers lead. The Wachowiak goal came on a penalty corner and was assisted by senior Laura Schwendeman.

In the second half, Novi managed to score its only goal of the game but North Allegheny fended off their foe thanks to two goals by Russell to put the contest out of reach. Both of Russell’s goals were assisted by senior Angie Genter.

North Allegheny outshot Novi, 16-6, and led in penalty corners, 8-7. Senior goalie Kali Kugler earned the win in net, making five saves on the day.

With the non-section win, North Allegheny improves to 5-1 overall. The Tigers will visit Peters Township on Tuesday night for a tough section contest. Start time is slated for 7:15 p.m.
