Norwin Ends North Allegheny’s Winning Streak

Posted on:

In a tough non-section tune-up ahead of the WPIAL playoffs, the playoff-bound North Allegheny girls’ soccer team fell to the Norwin Knights on Thursday night, 3-1. The outcome snaps a streak of 11 straight games without a loss, as well as a six-game winning streak for North Allegheny. It’s the first loss for the Tigers in over a month.

The leaders in Section 3-AAAA pressured NA in the first half but were turned away numerous times thanks to some incredible saves by goalie Madison Vukas. Despite Norwin’s advantage in possession time, the contest was scoreless after one half of play.

Norwin gained control midway through the second half, however, with goals by Kate Kauffman and Morgan Sigut for a 2-0 lead. North Allegheny edged back into the contest with 9:30 left in the second half on a marker by junior Sarah Schupanksy, trimming the Norwin lead to 2-1. The Knights staved off the Tigers in the remaining minutes and added one last goal from Dani Iannuzzo with 48 seconds remaining to bring the final score to 3-1, Norwin.

The loss drops North Allegheny’s record to 13-2-1 overall. Norwin improves to 15-1 on the season. The Tigers conclude the section schedule on Monday night with a home match with the North Hills Indians. The game will be broadcast live via the internet on the North Allegheny Sports Network.
