The North Allegheny Tigers made their 2017 – 2018 fall season debut at the 22nd Annual Head of the Cuyahoga Regatta in Cleveland, OH on Sept. 16, 2017. This was a  “Head Race”:  a longer course with staggered start times and an overall goal of having the fastest time.  The Tigers launched a dozen shells in six events with an excellent showing overall.  Earning medals for the Tigers were:

Women’s Open Quad – Faylyn Kalchthaler, Megan Kelly, Kellie Smith and Rachel Hopey –  First Place

Women’s Open Quad – Jenna Brandt, Kaleigh Flavin, Madi Robertson and Catie Guckert – Second Place

Women’s Jr. Double – Rachel Hopey and Megan Kelly – Third Place

Men’s Jr. Single – Geroid Ridenour – Third Place

The Head of the Cuyahoga is a challenging 3.1 mile course with a series of twists and bends requiring power and skill to navigate. It’s the perfect setting for spectators with terrific bridge views, sidewalks lining the river and culminating with a finish at Cleveland’s beautiful Rivergate Park.  The event is one of the most competitive of the fall season for high school, college and club teams with more than 2,000 rowers and 60 teams attending from the US and Canada.  A big thank you to the Cleveland Rowing Foundation for a terrific event!

NARA is a 501(c)3, non-profit organization supported by member dues, fundraising activities, donations from the community and some support from the school district.

The team competes as a club sport in the fall and a school sport in the spring.
