Seneca Valley Stings Tigers In Section Opener, 3-0

A rugged schedule to begin the 2015 season proved unkind to the eight-time reigning WPIAL champions on Tuesday night as the Seneca Valley Raiders swept North Allegheny, 3-0, in the Section 2-AAA opener. The Raiders entered the night ranked seventh in the state according to the latest PVCA poll with NA ranked sixth. The Tigers next opponent, Fox Chapel, is the top-ranked team in Pennsylvania.

The Raiders earned the win by set scores of 25-18, 26-24, and 25-22. North Allegheny hung tough with Seneca Valley thanks to the play of senior Nikola Topich who led the Tigers with 12 kills, eight digs and two aces. Joining Topich on defense with eight digs was David Henderson and Matt Nichol. Senior Alex Treser and freshman Canyon Tuman added seven kills apiece, while setter Jeremy Best posted a team-high 27 assists.

North Allegheny sits at 0-1 overall and in section play following the loss.  Seneca Valley is 1-0 overall and in section play.  The Tigers will host the Fox Chapel Foxes on Thursday night.  The game will be broadcast live via the internet on the North Allegheny Sports Network. Start time is set for 7:00 pm.
