Senior Sendoff Complete with Tiger Victory
The North Allegheny Tigers celebrated their seniors in style with a 3-1 victory over non-section opponent Canon-McMillan.
The Tigers got on the board in the first inning when sophomore Anne Melle doubled, scoring a runner from second. Despite a strong attempt by the Big Macs to answer back in the second, the Tigers held them scoreless to maintain a 1-0 lead.
NA scored again in the third when senior Alaina Whipkey smacked a solo homerun over the left field fence for a 2-0 lead. Although Canon-Mac scored in the third on an error, they were unable to make up the run deficit throughout the remainder of the game.
Freshman McKenna Rowlands had a strong performance at the plate, going 2-for-3 and scored the final run of the game on a Big Mac throwing error for a 3-1 lead and victory.
While teams were strong in the pitchers’ circle, Melle led the Tigers to the win. She allowed only five hits and one run in seven innings pitched, striking out five.
The Tigers improve to an overall record of 8-3. They return to section play tomorrow when they travel to Hempfield. The game is scheduled to begin at 4:00pm.
