Sewickley Academy Outlasts NA, 17-11

The North Allegheny girls’ lacrosse team fell to the Sewickley Academy Panthers on Monday afternoon, 17-11, in a Section 2-AAA contest.

The Tigers erased an early 2-0 deficit with back-to-back goals by seniors Brooke Ferringer and Ryley McClellan to even the score at 2-2 with 20:44 remaining in the first half. The Panthers scored five of the next six goals to take a 7-3 lead with 9:46 left before halftime. North Allegheny edged back to within two goals of Sewickley on back-to-back markers from Skye DePrado and another by Katie Oates, trimming to score to 8-6, Panthers. Sewickley Academy tacked on one last marker in the first half, a tally by sophomore Victoria Keller with 1:20 on the clock, the give the Panthers a 9-6 advantage at intermission.

The game stayed close in the second half with the Tigers trailing 12-10 with 8:29 remaining in regulation. However, Sewickley Academy managed to pull away from NA in the final five minutes to secure a 17-11 victory. The Panthers were led by sophomore Emma DeSantis and her game-high five goals. Ellie Hughes and Sydney Larson each posted a hat trick for the Panthers.

North Allegheny was paced by DePrado and Oates, who each netted four goals. Ferringer, McClellan and Lola Wilhite all scored one goal apiece. Wilhite and Ferringer were the leaders in groundballs with seven and six, respectively.  

With the loss, North Allegheny falls to 7-6 overall and 5-4 in Section 2-AAA. Sewickley Academy remains in a tie for second place with Shady Side Academy with a section mark of 7-1. The Tigers look to bounce back on Wednesday night with a home date against the Seneca Valley Raiders at 7:30 p.m.
