Team Effort Leads NA To Win Over North Hills, 52-29

The North Allegheny girls’ basketball team earned a Section 1-6A win on Tuesday night with a 52-29 triumph over the North Hills Indians.

The Indians utilized a deliberate tempo in the first quarter and tied the game at 8-8 late in the period on back-to-back 3-pointers from Abby McElhaney and Kayla Haile. Following a timeout, North Allegheny turned up the heat on defense to spark a 19-3 run that turned the tide in the contest. The Tigers led 30-15 at the half and maintained a double-digit advantage the rest of the way.

In a complete team effort, eight players touched the scoresheet for North Allegheny. Junior Paige Morningstar paced the Tigers with 16 points, while providing numerous steals and assists to garner Wright Automotive Player of the Game honors. In similar fashion, Taylor Rawls also dished out a bevy of assists and hounded the Indians into mistakes. Rawls totaled seven points. Junior Lizzy Groetsch joined Morningstar in double figures with 11 points.

For North Hills, points were hard to come by as junior Sydney Ryan led with nine points.

North Allegheny improves to 10-2 overall and 6-1 in Section 1-6A following the win. North Hills slips to 5-7 overall and 2-5 in the section. The Tigers will visit Shaler on Friday night at 6:00 p.m. in another section contest.
