Tigers Batter Rams For Section Win, 65-38

Posted on:

The North Allegheny girls’ basketball team returned to the win column on Monday evening with a 65-38 win over the Pine-Richland Rams. An issue at North Allegheny High School forced the game to be moved to North Allegheny Intermediate as both teams bused over together for an impromptu 8 p.m. start.

The adjusted start time and location didn’t slow down the Tigers who raced to a 32-16 lead at the half. North Allegheny pulled away in the second half on the strength of an 18-point night from junior Lizzy Groetsch. Groetsch netted 11 of her 18 points in the second half. Senior Katerina Balouris also touched double figures with 10 points for the Tigers and junior Paige Morningstar chipped in with nine points.

Pine-Richland was paced by Kaili Doctor with 14 points and Ekaterini Balouris with 10 points. Ekaterini is the cousin of NA’s Katerina Balouris.

With the win, North Allegheny improves to 7-1 overall and 4-1 in Section 1-6A. Pine-Richland slips to 2-8 overall and 0-5 in section play. The Tigers will visit Butler on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in another section contest.
