Tigers Bedevil Blue Devils, 3-0

In the Section 1-AAA opener on Tuesday night, the North Allegheny field hockey team blanked the Mt. Lebanon Blue Devils, 3-0, at Newman Stadium.

The Tigers stormed out of the gates in the first quarter with a pair of quick goals to seize control. On the first penalty corner opportunity of the night, NA cashed in when junior Lauren Kampi scored with 6:58 to play in the opening stanza for a 1-0 lead. Providing a strong all-around effort on both ends of the field, Kampi was selected as the Wright Automotive Player of the Game.

Just over a minute following Kampi’s goal, junior Sofia Mianzo placed a perfect centering pass on the doorstep to fellow junior Mila Prusak, who tapped a shot past Mt. Lebanon goalie Addie Donalson for a 2-0 advantage.

North Allegheny’s two-goal lead remained intact for the next two quarters as the Tigers controlled possession and field position. For the game, the Tigers outshot the Blue Devils, 11-2, and led in penalty corners, 7-3.

With 3:39 remaining in the fourth quarter, freshman Reagan Russell netted her first career goal to finish off a 3-0 victory over Mt. Lebanon.

Junior goalie Jordan Ashbaugh, who posted seven shutouts last season, collected her first shutout of the 2021 campaign.

The win improves North Allegheny’s record to 1-1 overall and 1-0 in Section 1-AAA. Mt. Lebanon falls to 0-1 overall and in the section. The Tigers return to action on Saturday at Peters Township for another section contest at noon.
