Tigers Breeze By Tornado, 9-3

North Allegheny won its third game in a row, and sixth in the last seven tries, with a 9-3 blowout of the Butler Golden Tornado on Wednesday night. Senior Jared Orwell helped spark a 12-hit attack, going 2 for 3 with three RBI and two runs scored. For his efforts, Orwell was named the Wright Automotive Player of the Game by the North Allegheny Sports Network.

In the first inning, Orwell drove in the first run of the game with an RBI single that plated J.T. Montross to give North Allegheny a 1-0 lead. The Tigers made it 2-0 in the second inning when Ryan Dougherty laced a double to left field that scored Logan Andreyko. Dougherty also had an impressive day at the plate with a 3 for 3 performance, driving in two runs and scoring another.

Butler managed to erase North Allegheny’s early lead by capitalizing on two NA errors, scoring two unearned runs in the third inning and one more in the fourth to grab a 3-2 advantage.

Undaunted, the Tigers turned the tables on Butler in the fourth inning with a four-run frame to take the lead for good. North Allegheny first knotted the score at 3-3 thanks to a sacrifice fly by Dougherty that scored Andreyko. With two outs, senior first baseman Cam Medic came through with a clutch two-out, two-run double to put the Tigers on top, 5-3. North Allegheny added another run on a Butler error to bring the score to 6-3, Tigers.

North Allegheny tacked on three insurance runs in the fifth inning with a two-run double from Orwell and a bases loaded walk by Shane Murphy to bring the final score to 9-3.

Starting pitcher Kevin Schott tossed six innings to earn the victory. The southpaw allowed only three unearned runs on four hits, while striking out four and walking two. Trevor Freyvogel pitched a scoreless seventh to finish out the contest. Butler reliever Shane McIntire took the loss, allowing five runs (four earned) in 3.2 innings.

North Allegheny vaults to 6-3 overall and 2-0 in Section 1-6A action. Butler falls to 2-6 overall and 1-1 in section play. The Tigers will visit Seneca Valley on Friday at 4:00 p.m. The contest is slated to be broadcast, weather permitting, by the North Allegheny Sports Network.
