Tigers Edge Hempfield For First Win, 61-58
The North Allegheny boys’ basketball team toppled the Hempfield Spartans on Saturday evening at the Spartans’ Tip-Off Tournament, 61-58. Junior guard Greg Habib led the way for the Tigers with a game-high 18 points and eight rebounds.
The Tigers held a 26-25 lead at the half and added on thanks to a hot-shooting third quarter. NA poured in 8 of 10 shots in the third and opened up a 46-40 advantage. In the fourth quarter, the Tigers fended off the host Spartans to claim the 61-58 win.
Joining Habib in double figures were Zach Andreykovich and Luke Colella with 16 and 10 points, respectively. Hempfield was paced by senior Marcus McCarthy’s 14 points. Michael Hosni, Christian Zilli and Drew Coletta all tallied 12 points for the Spartans.
With the win, North Allegheny improves to 1-1 on the season and will host the reigning Class 6A champion Mt. Lebanon Blue Devils on Tuesday night. The game will be broadcast live via the internet by the North Allegheny Sports Network.
