Tigers Edge Rams Behind Beining No-Hitter

On Wednesday evening at the NASH Softball Field the host Tigers and visiting Pine-Richland Rams played a 52-minute pitching-dominated game with the Tigers prevailing over a determined Rams team by the score of 1-0.  The only offense of the night came in the bottom of the third inning when senior center fielder Laura Cotter doubled, was advanced to third on a fielder’s choice by senior second baseman Emily Hogan, and scored on a clutch RBI single by junior catcher Liz Scherer. The Tigers struggled offensively against the Rams’ pitcher, Keely Flynn, managing a total of six hits but for the most part not able to get the breakthrough hit to widen the margin. North Allegheny stranded six runners against Flynn, who had one strikeout and allowed one walk in her strong performance.

It was junior pitcher Madi Beining and Scherer who were in sync, to lead the Tigers, with Beining allowing no hits while striking out four and walking none.  The Tiger defense was solid for the most part, with two errors that did not prove to be costly.

The win raises North Allegheny’s overall record to 15-0 while giving them a 12-0 mark in Section 3AAAA. Next up for the Tigers is a trip to Shaler Area on Thursday afternoon to play the Titans in a game scheduled for a 3:00 start.
