Tigers Edge Spartans, 1-0

On Senior Night at Fairhaven Park in Kennedy Township the North Allegheny Tigers Varsity Softball team edged the Montour Spartans 1-0 in a Monday evening contest.  The Tigers got the only run of the game from the first two batters of the game.  Senior center fielder Laura Cotter opened with a double to deep left-center field that was just out of reach of the Montour center fielder.  Senior Mackenzie Gostomski followed with an RBI single to give NA the 1-0 advantage that would remain throughout the game.

The Tigers’ Madi Beining and the Spartans Rachel Donovan each pitched solidly, with Beining limiting the Spartans to five hits while striking out six and walking none.  The Tigers defense played solidly all night long, with key plays by senior third baseman Olivia Schweiger and left fielder Gostomski to thwart potential Spartan runs. Donovan allowed seven hits and one walk, but repeatedly pitched out of trouble by stranding nine NA base runners on the evening.

The win raises North Allegheny’s overall record to 18-0 while maintaining a 13-0 mark in Section 3-AAAA.  The Tigers are scheduled to complete section play on Tuesday at NASH Field when they host the North Hills Indians in a scheduled 7:00PM start. Check the NA Athletic Website for possible weather-related changes.
