Tigers Edged By Foxes In WPIAL Quarterfinals, 3-2

The North Allegheny girls’ tennis fell in a heartbreaker on Thursday afternoon, 3-2, to the Fox Chapel Foxes in the WPIAL Class AAA quarterfinals.

After NA victories at No. 2 singles and No. 2 doubles, the decisive point came down to the No. 3 singles matchup between senior captain Claire Zheng and Fox Chapel’s Katie Voigt. Despite a valiant effort from Zheng, Voigt prevailed in a third set tiebreaker to send the Foxes to the WPIAL semifinals next week. Voigt won by set scores of 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-1).

Another three-set thriller occurred at No. 2 doubles where NA’s Tia Soussou and Eileen Hu earned an exciting 4-6, 6-5, 7-5 victory. At No. 2 singles, junior Abbey Swirsding delivered a 6-2, 6-2, win for the Tigers over Sienna Siegel.

North Allegheny’s season comes to a close with an overall record of 11-3. The Tigers garnered another section crown in 2021 and rolled to an 11-match winning streak along the way. Congratulations to head coach Michelle Weniger and the entire North Allegheny girls’ tennis team for a memorable season.
