Tigers Fall To Blue Streaks

The North Allegheny boys’ lacrosse team traveled Lancaster on Saturday for a non-section matchup with Manheim Township. Behind a four-goal performance from sophomore Simon Bowen, the reigning District 3 champions defeated the visiting Tigers, 17-9.

With the help of Bowen, the Blue Streaks opened up a 5-1 lead midway through the first quarter. After a long bus ride, Tigers finally gained their land legs and rattled off five consecutive goals to take a 6-5 lead with 4:57 remaining in the second quarter. Senior Marc Bartolomucci scored a pair of goals during the first-half surge, along with markers from Jonathan Castillo, Nick Sichak and Travis Lamark. Senior Christian Tedder also tallied a goal in the first quarter for the Tigers.

In a seesaw first half, the pendulum swung back toward Manheim Township, who scored five consecutive goals to end the half with a 10-6 lead. The Blue Streaks broke the game open in third period with six straight goals for a 16-6 advantage by the start of the fourth quarter. Along with Bowen’s big day, Peyton Moritzen and Bennett Parmer each tallied a hat trick. 

The Tigers finished strong in the fourth quarter by scoring three of the final four goals to bring the final score to 17-9, Blue Streaks. Sichak finished with a hat trick, while Castillo and Bartolomucci totaled two goals each.

On defense, senior Matthew Miller posted four ground balls and two takeaways. Senior Marco Pascarella notched four ground balls and three takeaways. Sophomore Logan Lyle gave an outstanding effort in net with 15 saves.

Following the loss, North Allegheny dips to 7-6 overall and will host Butler in a Section 2-AAA contest on Monday night. The game will be broadcast live by the North Allegheny Sports Network.
